Year 2 Confirmation Preparation (typically Grade 8) is the second year of preparation for this sacrament.
Eighth Graders are experiencing rapid and profound physical, emotional and intellectual growth. While peers are a very strong influence at this age, adults continue to be important in the lives of young teens. This is particularly true when they are troubled, fearful or unsure of situations in which they find themselves. Because Eighth Graders are more able to think abstractly than in previous years, they now have the capacity for critical reflection on their faith experiences. Faith tradition and moral guidance of the Church offer this age group structure and security they need during this turbulent time.
Growing as Catholics
It is important that this age group be given the opportunity to discover their own unique gifts and the personhood given them by God. The traditions and beliefs of the Catholic Church can be an anchor in a world that is otherwise changing at a frightening pace.
There are four class sessions scheduled throughout the year. Families are given an option of which classes meet their schedule on any given month. SignUp Genius emails will be sent to each family about 2 weeks before each class session.
In addition to class sessions, youth are required to attend a Confirmation Retreat, 3 Rite Masses and an end of the year program. Successful completion of all the work and attendance at all the meetings is required for Confirmation.
Home instruction is not an option in the Eighth Grade.

Sponsor Information
All youth preparing to receive Confirmation are to seriously consider the importance of a good Catholic role model in their lives, and the support that person can be and should be to them in their continuing faith formation. Selection of a Confirmation sponsor must meet the following guidelines:
- Select a sponsor and submit a Sponsor Form
- Requirements for a sponsor – must be 16 years of age/must be a confirmed practicing Catholic/cannot be a parent/good role model. Once a sponsor is chosen, a Sponsor Form must be submitted to the Religious Education Office (see link below).
- If the sponsor is NOT a member of Saint Michael Parish, then the sponsor must submit to the Religious Education Office a letter of good standing from the parish from which they belong (see link below Sponsor Requirement Form). In other words, the sponsor or the sponsor’s family must be registered at a parish.
- Select a sponsor and submit a Sponsor Form
