Year 1 Confirmation Prep

Year I Confirmation Preparation (typically Grade 7)  is the first year of the two year preparation for Confirmation. In Year I preparation youth will be expected to attend all scheduled classes and complete all assignments on time. Year I has a different meeting schedule than the other grades.

Service and Devotions

Youth are expected to participate in three (3) service opportunities that the RE Office will offer over the school year, plus 6 hours of community service to be completed in an area of their choosing per year, (Year 1 Confirmation and Year 2 Confirmation). This will total 6 service opportunities from our office and 12 hours on your own.

We will no longer accept hours from the Cranford Police Academy, School Peer Groups, Scouts or school plays because will be concentrating on the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy as well as service to St. Michael Parish.

Summary of Responsibilities of Youth
The following list is the responsibilities of youth who are preparing for Confirmation. The Religious Education office reserves the right to add other responsibilities as needed.

• Attend 6 Devotions throughout the 2 year period
• Attend and participate in religion class
• Complete all home assignments on time
• Attend and participate in Rites and Reconciliation

Responsibilities of Parents
The following list is the responsibilities of parents whose children are preparing for Confirmation.

Parents …

• are the primary educators of their children
• are responsible for initiating their children in to the sacramental life
• serve as models for their child by being committed Christians
• worship with their families regularly
• nurture their child in faith
• encourage their child to reflect on and thoughtfully consider the decision to receive the sacrament of Confirmation
• as asked to attend meetings, programs, and prayer services for the sacrament of Confirmation
• are not permitted as Confirmation sponsors for their own child
• are asked to assist their child with the immediate preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation through prayer, study and Christian service
• encourage their children to continue learning more about their faith even after the reception of Confirmation
• help their child in understanding the Confirmation service project as the beginning of a life committed to Christian service
